About SynthSights
SynthSights is an email discussion forum for people around the world who use synthesizers to make music. Anyone can join, and everyone is welcome. The list is not about the workings of specific instruments, nor is it about promoting a particular genre of music--it's about how we interact with our studio equipment and the creative process we go through when writing music.
We're talking primarily about managing the quirkiest item of music-making equipment we own, the one that runs the most vital operating system in our electronic studio! How effectively we integrate ourselves--our intellect and our personality--with our tool set makes or breaks our ability to get satisfying results. As the hub of the system, we have to take into account realistically our varying needs and our aptitude for musical creativity, and filter the hype from equipment and software manufacturers.
Our purpose is comradeship in sorting through the possibilities of our vast
technological environment to settle on the creative approach that works best
for the OS in each of us. For those who are already under way with a set of
preferred methods, it is a place to share the ups and downs of our progress.
This subject matter can get us into some self-analysis, so it is important that SynthSights remains a haven for constructive and understanding discourse among friends. We warmly welcome idle gossip, wild speculation, filthy thinking, bad language, angst-ridden confessions, awful puns and other important enrichments to human conversation! However, personal attacks or political/religious rants will get you shown the door. The judicious posting of URLs for our amusement is fine, so long as you note the nature of the material. Your Evil Moderatrix exercises benevolent tyranny with regard to postings, boundaries of topic relevancy, and participation. The key here is style; if yours wouldn't fly in my living room, you'll be warned, and if you persist, out you go. For untempered personal expression, there are quite a few alternative mailing lists that members can recommend.
Since most of us are technology-obsessed, we have a 'gear-spotting' Members'
Page for admiring each other's studios, along with profiles and mug shots. Be
sure to visit SynthSpins to hear a varied selection of members' music!

P.S. Don't tell anyone, but we're always ready to indulge those moments when it is about the gear after all! :-)
